Tideland

Terry Gilliams new movie Tideland should be out in limited US theaters soon, and it looks beautiful and very weird, as it might be expected. See the trailer at the official site or on YouTube. It's sad how he struggles so much to get anything he makes released, when it's all so wonderful.

Strange (and probably wonderful) stuff.

One of my saddest viewing experiences ever was courtesy of Gilliam. It wasn't one of his films, though. It was one of his unfilms.

Ever seen Lost in La Mancha? His Don Quixotte would have been brilliant. Too bad it never got made.

Unfortunately, a lot of his struggles are at least partially his own doing. He's often percieved as "out-of-control." Because he often is. That doesn't prevent his stuff from being great. But it does make it hard for studios to take a risk on him.

And I'm going to have to stop short of calling Brothers Grimm wonderful.

Just don't forget who introduced you to Time Bandits. :)

You know, I didn't think Brothers Grimm was that bad. Definitely not up to par though, and it suffered from too much Hollywoodizing.

Heh, must get some TACers here to watch Time Bandits. :)

Lost in La Mancha was a tragic film. Don Quixote is the perfect story for him to tell. The next project he has lined up though, is Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet's Good Omens.

Ben:

Have you seen Gilliam's MTV interview? Lots of fascinating stuff in there. (Even though the page itself is terribly cluttered.)

HERE.
